Keratinocytes- most numerous epidermal cells that are rich in keratin protein. Protects and waterproofs the skin

Melanocytes- creates the protein pigment melanin. Responsible for variations in skin color and absorbs UV light

Langerhans cells- immune cells located in the epidermis that helps fight infection.

Merkel cells- least numerous cells. nerve receptors that monitor touch and are found in the deepest layers of the epidermis
